Recovering from Arm Lift Surgery
Brachioplasty is generally performed on an outpatient basis, allowing you to rest and recover in the comfort of your own home. You will be advised to wear compression garments for up to four weeks post-surgery to minimize swelling, which can be significant for up to two weeks post-surgery and may persist for several months as skin tissues normalize. Dr. Abdullah will provide detailed aftercare instructions, as well as options for pain control. In addition, he will provide contact information for he and his staff in the event that questions or concerns arise. Within several days of your Tampa arm lift surgery, you will have your first follow-up appointment with him.
After your arm lift surgery, it is crucial that you designate someone to drive you home. You may also need someone close by for the first few days after surgery in case of complications or if you need help with tasks.
Arm lift recovery typically takes 1-2 weeks. The tissues may take a few weeks to heal fully. Doctors often recommend post-operative instructions to assist in faster and easier recovery. These include:
- Getting sufficient rest
- Avoiding strenuous activities, such as bearing weight or lifting over your head
- Wearing loose and comfortable clothing which is easy to put on and take off
More importantly, watch out for potential side effects or resulting conditions, like:
- Redness
- Swelling
- Drainage
These may disappear with time. However, in the event the side effects worsen, contact your doctor immediately.
Most arm lift patients are able to return to work within 3 to 4 weeks of surgery, depending on the nature of their job. Heavy lifting must be avoided for a period of 4 weeks, minimum.
